In coordination with the British Council, the Ministry of Education will add human rights to the curricula of Grade five of primary school and upwards commencing in the new academic year.
The supervisor in the Directorate of Educational Supervision, in the Ministry of Education: Mrs. Amal Abdel Samad, said in a press interview followed by the Iraqi Nakheel website that the ministry aims to build a committed student who interacts positively with the developments of life by inserting “human rights” subjects in all school curricula, to be taught during the new academic school year 2021-2022.
She added, "The Ministry of Education and the British Council have prepared the printed curricula for the targeted stages, and hold a workshop was held in Erbil to discuss the teacher's guide for teaching such material and training on the School Award for Human Rights manual related to solving some problems among students; such as bullying, freedom expression, exchange of views and respecting each other.
Mrs. Abdul Samad explained that "this step came within the program of capability building in primary and secondary education, which is one of the measures adopted by the Ministry for communication and building the capabilities of students and educational staff."
